WE-Heraeus Communication Program
Communication Program – Call for applications 2010
Call for applications 2010 of the Promotion Program of Communication of young scientists of the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Stiftung and the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft e.V.
Young generation scientists are one of the main target groups the activities of the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Stiftung are addressed to. Therefore in 1989 the foundation together with the DPG established a program that gives young physicists in an early period of their scientific career (Diplom, Master or PhD thesis) the opportunity to present their own scientific results to a censorious audience. Within the frame of this program the active participation at the DPG Spring Meetings, the German Conference of Women in Physics and at the conferences of the EPS and the IUPAP is financially supported. A necessary condition is that the IUPAP-conference takes place in Europe.
Young physicists whose centre of living and work is located in Germany and who would like to participate in these conferences and do not get their travelling expenses refunded (either totally or partly) by their academic institution can claim expenses as a part of this grant. Entitled to make an application under the Communication Program are authors or co-authors of a conference contribution such as a talk or a poster which was submitted and has been accepted by the administration of the conference. Funding is possible only for one participant per contribution. Exclusively DPG members in the fee categories E, A and 3 (in fee category 3: only Diploma, Master and PhD students) are supported. In addition participants of EPS- or IUPAP-conferences can be funded up to three years after their doctor´s degree.
Guideline for grand application for the participation in a DPG Spring Meeting and the German Conference of Women in Physics:
Please submit your scientific contribution first. Submitting a contribution is possible only electronically at www.dpg-tagungen.de. After having received the confirmation receipt with the number of the abstract, you can apply online at www.weh.dpg-physik.de for a grant under the communication program. At the time of the application you have to be a member of the DPG and you will need to have your membership number at hand. Deadline for applications is January 20th, 2010 for the DPG Spring Meetings and September 28th, 2010 for the German Conference of Women in Physics. Applications coming in after this date cannot be taken into consideration. After you have entered the application data and after a formal check you will get a notice of arrival by email. You will be informed by the DPG Head Office by email about acceptance or refusal of your application at the latest four weeks before the conference – thus in good time prior to the conference’s beginning. The processing of the applications at the DPG Head Office is handled by Ms Conny Theodor
().
At the beginning of the conference you will receive a conference ID at the conference office. Please confirm the length of your stay at the conference office prior to your departure. Afterwards you can submit this confirmation directly at the conference office. Alternatively, you can submit the confirmation of participation at the DPG Head Office, Hauptstr. 5, 53604 Bad Honnef until April 26th, 2010 for the DPG Spring Meetings and November 22nd, 2010 for the German Conference of Women in Physics, at the latest. Confirmations arriving late cannot be taken into consideration. Please inform us about your correct bank details, in case your bank details have changed since your application. Guidelines for funding: 20 Euro per overnight stay, 24 Euro daily allowance, 0.18 Euro for each distance kilometre (round-trip) between conference location and university location, conference fee. Only travelling costs within Germany can be refunded. From the available subsidies and the grants requested from all participants in total a proportion is being calculated, which is limited to a maximum of 50 % of the stated costs. The respective grant will be transferred to the bank account given in the application. Applicants will get a summary by email stating the basis for the amount to be refunded. In case that there is an additional reimbursement of costs by another institution the applicants already bind themselves in their application to inform the reimbursing institution about the amount of the reimbursement by the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus Communication Program of the DPG.
The Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft wants to express its thanks and gratitude for the generous support and assistance of young scientists by the Wilhelm und Else Heraeus-Stiftung. We hope that young physicists will continue to take the chance to communicate with scientists at the conferences – as already 17.200 young scientists have done before.
The deadline to apply for a subsidy is January 20th 2010.
